As your local Member of Parliament for South Perth, I’m excited to share the Cook Labor Government's $200 million transformative upgrades coming to the Canning Bridge Interchange, one of Perth’s busiest transport hubs.

The Canning Bridge Interchange upgrades, due to commence in 2026, will create direct connectivity for bus and train passengers with more station facilities and better pedestrian access. These upgrades include:

  • A Principal Shared Path (PSP) and Pedestrian Bridge - $30 million

The construction of a new southern Principal Shared Path (PSP) and pedestrian bridge will enable safe and direct access across the freeway. This dedicated path and bridge will connect Davilak Street in Como to the Canning Bridge Station and eastern walkways, eliminating the need for pedestrians and cyclists to navigate busy roads or traffic.

  • A Larger Bus Interchange - $150 million

The expansion of the bus interchange facility includes moving the bus stops off the roadway and onto an elevated platform above the freeway and the train station to improve traffic flow across Canning Bridge. The design features 12 active bus stands and 8 layover stands, new station facilities (toilets, customer assistance, etc.) and will facilitate direct connections for bus/train transferring passengers, improving efficiencies and reducing delays.

  • Northbound Onramp Metering - $20 million

Smart Freeways ramp metering on the northbound on-ramps to Canning Highway and Manning Road will optimise traffic flow, reduce delays, and improve overall travel times. Additionally, the project includes design work for the Canning Highway northbound on-ramp, ensuring the Canning Bridge Interchange is future-proofed to meet the area’s growing demands.

I will continue to advocate for these upgrades to the Canning Bridge Bus Interchange as a priority for South Perth, which will not only enhance the daily commute for thousands of residents but also ensure South Perth remains a connected and thriving part of Perth’s transport network.
